Printer Leaking Ink? *PIC*

I've been using my Epson Stylus C80 for about half a year. Just today, I found that my prints had some really thick black ink smudged on the corner edge. So I look in the printer, and there's this giant glob of ink lying opposite the side where the cartidges sit. I was sure it wasn't supposed to be like that, as it definately wasn't like that before or I would have noticed, so I took some paper towel and cleaned most of it up and then used a bit of rubbing alcohol to finish the job. Well after cleaning, it ended up looking like this. As you can probably see, there's pit of ink. I stuck a toothpick in it and it turned out to be about 2.5 cm deep. What could have happened? I installed new ink cartridges a few weeks ago, but I'm pretty sure I installed them the right way, and they were the uber expensive Epson brand stuff too.

since the cartridge is what dispenses ink, and the only real connection (aside from holding it in place) to the printer itself is the electrical contacts, i would say it would have to be a bad cartridge. i cant imagine it being anything else.

I'd suspect the same thing, but I'd probably zap a message to Epson about it and see what they say.

What brand of ink were you using? Epson or some knockoff?
