Is there a printer (fairly inexpensive) that can be used basically for just printing envelopes ?

Have searched and so, far have not found such an animal.

Thanks.

Have you googled on envelope printer or envelope printing. Wasn't going to ask that as I might have to come back and fling a "Duuuuh!" if the correct answer wasn't forthcoming... ...But here it is and now you're stuck with it.

I don't know of any specifically for that purpose though I suppose someone has rigged a laser printer for it with a custom feeder for the bulk mail business - talking big bucks here. You have to watch what kind of adhesive is on the envelopes as laser heat can make some melt and gum up the works. My Canon iP3000 can stack 10 or so in its top feeder. Good luck.

Xerox, Canon, Kyocera/Minolta and possibly HP would be some places to look for the customized lasers - but you'd probably have to call a rep. Doubt theyd be noted on a web site.

Why don't you print out labels and stick them to the envelopes?
There are a lot of label printers out there, plus when you feed an envelope through a printer, the adhesive can get stuck before you are ready to send it.

Yup, an altavista search turned up plenty with output rates in the thousands per hour...

Stifko,
. Labels are nice but can entail labor costs...

I'd have to say that its better to just get a cheap normal printer and make labels.

Avery must have a thousand standard formats and they should already be loaded into microsoft word.

As already stated a specialty printer like that will not be cheap.

For me, I just move the sliders over on my laser and select "envelope" before I print. (Its under the paper selection settings.)

As long as graphics are not required, a dot matrix could even fit the bill. When push come to shove,
a dot matrix can be frugal with consumables--and tolerate long periods of non use.

I really don't know of a dedicated printer for letters. I'd reccommend just spending $200 on getting 2,000 envelopes printed at a local print shop and getting a Dymo labeler for custom labels.

Whatever you do, please dont print with inkjet. :D

I guess it depends on what kind of scale/budget you are working on

Another suggestion is to look for windowed envelopes and so you can just print the address on regular paper and have it seen through the envelope window. Takes a bit of time to align up the first time but after that shouldn't have any issues.

Vegetation's idea is a good one except that window envelopes do cost more - but maybe not enough more when judged against the cost of a dedicated printer. Most good WP programs also have the format for windowed envelopes built in. Get a folding machine and the address will automatically line up.
