Printer does not work

Hello,
Printer BJC - 4400 Canon does not print. The error it shows is following there was an error writing to LPT1 for the printer . The printer is not ready. Make sure it is turned on and online. I am using windows 98

Check connections? Drivers ok? No paper jam?

Can you print a test page from the printer itself? If you don't know how to do this, consult your manual. Though usually you can just hold down a button or all buttons on the printer for 3-5 seconds.
