Printer Defaults for HP Deskjet 690C in 2K

How do I go about setting the defaults for printing on my hp deskjet 690C in windows 2k? I have tried changing them in start->settings->printers->properties on 690C, but the settings don't seem to stick. I want to make it so it defaults to printing black and white on draft quality.
