Printer: Canon MP600 or MP960?

I'm deciding between those two printers; the MP600 is $150, MP960 $350.

The deciding factor is that I'll feel better with the better print and photo quality of the 960, but I'm wondering, is it worth the extra $200?

Does anyone know of a forum where you can go for informed advice on computer peripherals:)

I think PC World just did a new "Top 10" multifunction printer list and I think the 600 came out on top, but that all depends on what features you consider of top priority. you'll have to compare your priorities list with their review weighting formula. If you don't need the extra features of a multifunction machine, then I'd recommend the Canon iP4300. Very few if any of the Canon MPs can equal the 4300 in print quality. Again, it's your priorities. I prefer separate scanner and printer. The 600 is supposed to have the same print engine as the 4300, but they never seem to work quite as well in the MPs as they do in the iPs...

If you are at all concerned about cost, the MP600 would get my vote hands down. They both have 9600 dpi which is going to make the most difference in photo quality. I can tell a difference between 9600 dpi and HP's 4800 dpi. I cannot, however, tell a difference between the printers with light cyan and light magenta, like the 960, and those without, like the 600.

The main difference between the two is features. If all you are interested in is print quality, then save your money.

Thanks for the tips. I mainly want it for day to day text printing, and occassional graphic/photo printing. The main reason for me to consider the MP960 is that nagging feeling of 'I wonder if this would look better' if I got the MP600.

The scanner is of little use.

From the sound of it, it's a close call, where Ketchup can't tell the difference on photos, but it does have the two extra color cartridges... hmmm.

canon released both the mp610 & mp970 to replace the mp600/mp960. out of all the multifunction printer brands out there-- (canon--epson--hp--dell--lexmark---brother--kodak) - every review says this printer is so-so but not as good as the same model by canon. it all depends on what features you want, how much can you afford and will it work for you 6 mos from now. i'm looking to get a canon aio also, they have so many models, makes it hard to choose.
