I know they have printable CD disc stickers and so on, but does anyone make printable stickers for use on computers, cars, whatever?

Stickers/labels come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. What exactly do you want?

True - but clear 2" package tape can take care of that easily. Laser if the best for outside use.

Like a clear or white background, 8.5 x 11". If it had a full-on protective sheet, that'd be sweet, but your tape idea sounds good too. Mainly for use as computer stickers that will go on top of paintjobs ;)

Also dont forget that most inkjet printer inks are not too durable when it comes to sunlight. They'd fade quickly. Plus, if you're printing to any adhesive paper stock, just sticking a waterproof film or packing tape on it isn't going to do anything to protect the edge of the sticker. Moisture will get right in there and skruit up.

I have seen stickers that are 8.5 by 11. Try the Staples or OfficeMax websites. I wonder if Avery has a website.

You really want letter-sized stickers stuck on paint jobs? Go to the Staples, Office Depot or other similar web sites. Look in office supplies for labels and you will see numerous sizes and formats for inkjet and laser printing. Some have permanent stickum some have removable stickum - be sure to get the type you want. They will also have 4" wide (maybe wider too) rolls of clear packing tape which will make quick work of waterproofing any size labels.
. And if you use inkjet printing, be sure to let it fully dry before taping over it as the chemicals in the ink may react with with the adhesive. I have taped over inkjet printing a bit too soon and the black printing turned purple after a short time... And speaking of reactions, there are specialty products with adhesive formulations that won't interact with specific surfaces - something to consider if you don't want the labels/protecting tape to cause damage to the surfaces.
