Print Jobs

Hi All...

Here's a strange one for those in the network enviroment... We have some linux print server as well as NT print server. Recently when someone prints to a network printer, not only a copy get printed to the directed printer but several print job with 0Kb get spooled on to every print queues at the NT print servers. This happens regardless whether user has permission to print to the queue or not. Moreover they do not have connection to those printer in the Control Pannel either. Some suspect virus but there are no known Viruses that does such strange things. I'm on the other hand believe something else is causing print jobs to be broadcast all over the place. Please... please and a thousand more I need some input, suggestion... anything....

What are you using to transfer traffic around, hubs or switches? It sounds like you may want to put a switch just off of your printer possibly due to possible collisions. Switches tend to handle collisions much better than hubs do. If you are using a print server device you may also want to check it to make sure it is working properly. Hope this helps. 🙂

Thanks man... Someone at least responsed... Unfortunately this happen even over WAN links... I even have print jobs from users in different site 70 km away. They don't even know about the printqueues in my site....So I'm gonna rule out the network broadcasting problem.
