It's amazing the amount of bullshit women had to go through back then.

It's OK, because that is when America was at it's "best"; give the mentally retarded radiation pills, demean women and keep blacks out of the white man's world.

Oh, and the best of all; bang a chick, get her pregnant - no way for her to prove it is yours!!

this is why i laugh when someone says "the greatest generation"

no generation is greatest

I think they are a very respectable generation, and right now they are the generation that is dying off so we get the hindsight of how they carried themselves through their lives.

Think of all the strange shit they've seen....all the way from the development of modern cars and flight all the way to Vine videos.

You would be wrong, those who lived through WW2 ARE the greatest generation, no need for a draft, when the attack on Pearl Harbor happened men of all ages came in to sign up in droves, many lost their lives defending our freedom, those that didn't fight gladly put up with ration cards for everything from meat to gasoline, women learned to weld, rivet, assemble in factories, jobs women had NEVER done before but that generation didn't care, show me what to do, I'm on it. The average lifespan of an 8th air-core bomber crewman was 6 weeks, sometimes over 30 B-17's were shot down in one mission but that didn't stop others from flying until Nazi Germany was defeated. Not to take away from all the other armed forces who lost lives in Vietnam or Korea or Iraq they are also hero's in my book, it's just that from 1941-1945 EVERYONE was involved and EVERYONE had each others back, that is/was what made them "The Greatest Generation".

It would have been nice if they had more than half of them readable. Still, crazy stuff, no matter how often it's reposted. The Leggs one and shoe one are simply

Due to the lack of media coverage, America "looked" like it was at its best back then, when in reality politicians were doing things that would get them jail sentences in today's world.

Yup. I was reading the Monica Lewinsky thing right now and she was talking about how insane things would be if the whole scandal happened today with Twitter, Facebook, etc.

That's still fairly recent. Imagine the "red scare" happening today, where people were getting blacklisted because a group of politicians thought they might be communists, or the fact that nearly any contract could be purchased in the 50's and 60's by bribing your congressman, or how the President would actually order covert assassinations.

Completely different world now.

The irony is that, despite women having less oppurtunities, women were actually happier back then.

"First, since 1972, women's overall level of happiness has dropped, both relative to where they were forty years ago, and relative to men. You find this drop in happiness in women regardless of whether they have kids, how many kids they have, how much money they make, how healthy they are, what job they hold, whether they are married, single or divorced, how old they are, or what race they are"

They finally started getting treated as equals and then went "Oh....actually this does kind of suck..."

I truly wish I could go back and raise my family in that time period. No computronics all over your house. Everything you put down your gullet wasn't pumped full of hormones and steriods or made in a lab. You weren't expected to be available to anyone who wants to contact you 24 hours a day.

Ah, the good old days. What a great time to be alive. I feel cheated some what in that I never got to see real American prosperity and am left with a lifetime ahead of dealing with an increasingly crumbling infrastructure.

These ads were quality.

WTF happened to advertising. I would buy a ton of shit from these ads. My favorite is the beer one.
