I purchased a Primera Bravo II disk duplicator about a year ago. In deciding which model to purchase, I found there was a $700 price difference between the CD and the DVD model, and being a lil technically inclined I figured why spend $700 when I can just purchase the CD model and change the drive out for a DVD, no biggie, Right? WRONG ! after I did the swap, and ran the software, it reports that the duplicator is not configured for a DVD, select a CD. I called Primera and they informed me you just can't do that, We have to upgrade it for you, at a price of $700, I figured that was a lil obserd since I already had the DVD drive in place, and asked why I couldn't just purchase the firmware for the DVD drive assuming that would resolve my problem, their responce was, you want to upgrade to a DVD you send us the duplicator and $700 and we'll do it for you, otherwise you're on your own... Anyways, the other night I did happen to notice that they had the firmware for the drive I had purchased since they have upgraded that duplicator to the new pioneer DVR109, so I downloaded the firmware and installed it figuring my problems were solved. Once again Wrong ! In doing some research on Primera's site, they will tell you they have hardware on thier main board that just prevents you from installing a DVD when the unit is configured with a CD, I can read from the drive and presume write to it as well, but the Primera software won't acknowledge the Duplicator. In looking at the main board there is one socketed chip with a tag that says "Bravo 2 Mode 2 9-24-03 under the tag is a chip number of 17S30APC field programmable array logic (FPAL) chip and with my experience with any PAL chips, most have a programmable fuse that can be blown to prevent anyone from reading the program code from the chip, and the way these guys are, I'm sure that is the case. Just incase you are wondering, I do have a programmer to program this style of chip. What I'm wondering is does anyone have the code to reprogram one of these chips to convert this thing into the DVD duplicator or possibly a software work around. Can anyone PLEASE help? Any input or advise would be appriciated. Thank you in advance

Basically, the laser burn patterns of a DVD and a CD are totally different. A DVD burner can often burn CDs,(different lasers) but a CD burner cannot burn DVDs.
