My GPUs are in but my cpus are on Rosetta. Seems like forever since I've crunched anything but FAH or PrimeGrid!

I know this is probably odd, but I've got my 780Ti on the "ponies" and my slower GPUs on the "World record WUs".

Quick, look we are in second place (tied)! This won't last long!

Alright, I'm in!

But I've only just ticked a couple of boxes in the Primegrid preferences (namely force AVX for my Sandy Bridge and OpenCL for my ATi's), and still have to go back and re-read Ken G6's helpful hints from the first page of the thread to see if anything else applies.

Still, I could use a reality check for estimated completion times:

So far, BOINC predicts that the CPU tasks will take 111 hours to complete on 2500K and 182 hours on Phenom II. On the GPU side, BOINC predicts that my 7950 will complete a WR WU in 141 hours and a Pony in 11 hours. While 6950 and 560Ti both look to need about 18 hours to complete a Pony.

Are my times roughly where I should expect them, or is something quite obviously amiss to more knowledgeable eyes?

I'm putting the WR GPU tasks on hold while I complete some F@H WUs and thereafter will probably further suspend the long WR Prime WUs while I crunch a couple shorter Pony WUs just to verify that the OCs on my GPUs can at least handle the shorter, easier units.

While BOINC's time estimates are notoriously unreliable, the Genefer app is very good at predicting how long it will take to run. After a few minutes, it writes a very accurate time prediction to the file "stderr.txt" located in the BOINC "slot" directory where the app is running. You can open this file in your text editor of choice to view this time estimate.

The time estimate is at the very end of the file.
The path to this file on my computer is: C:\ProgramData\BOINC\slots\5

Edit: to unquote because it seems people don't read quoted stuff!

QFT! :) Oh, wait...

Anyway, stats...Biodoc's the only one that's returned a WU, for 29978 points. More stats when they mean more...

The last line in my stderr.txt files is "Watchdog active."

Watchdog is a Rosetta thing so you must be looking at your CPU slots. You're running Rosetta on your CPUs, right? Try checking slot 0. That should be your GPU.

I can't seem to get any GPU WUs for this race.

I updated BOINC to 7.0.33 or whatever the newest version is.

I updated my ATI drivers to 13.12 WHQL.

I went to my PrimeGrid prefs and selected the ATI OpenCL WUs, for both the short and long challenge WUs.

OS is Win7 64-bit. Cards are 7790 1GB (x2). Platform is 990FX AM3+ / Thuban 1045T.

When I enabled CPU and CPU challenge WUs, I finally got 6 CPU WUs.

Edit: Are 7790 cards blacklisted for GFN WUs?

One or more stable GPU(s). They can be either AMD or nVidia, but they need to be able to do double-precision computation. Scroll down to the bottom ofthis page for a list of known working GPUs on GFN, as well as their relative speeds. If your GPU is not listed there, you may be SOL. (Single-precision Only Level. ;))

Hmm, guess my 7790 card are indeed "SOL". Too bad.

Strange - my 2700k seems to not want to run the short Pony WUs when I force AVX. It keeps erroring out with a "Computation error". Didn't discover that until I got home from work yesterday. Anyway, I'm having to run the regular SSE3 WUs.

My GTS450 is estimating approximately ~35hrs to finish one Pony WU. I don't have the hardware to run any of the Stallion ones. :(

You should be able to do the GFN short (Pony) WUs on your GPU. It does list the 7700 series for both Windows & Linux, although it lists them as Capeverde, which the 7790's aren't exactly.

How are those 7790's working for DC (or everything else for that matter)? Keep waiting for them to drop under the $100 line.

My children have made me brain dead. Pay no attention to me. Mine says 30 hours.

(0.255) AMD Radeon HD 7700 series (Capeverde)

Your card should be ok. Did you click on the OpenCL box under ati/amd for GFN short in the preferences?

Also did you click on the "enable ATI GPU box at the top of the preferences?

Yes, and yes.

They aren't really part of the 7700 series though. They are GCN 1.1, not 1.0. They are technically more advanced than the 7750/7700.

Not sure if it will help anybody but here are my stderr.txt estimated total runtimes for the GFN-WR(stallion challenge) WU's.

GTX 460 - 269:18:31 hours
GTX 470 - 161:07:02 hours
GTX 480 - 130:02:06 hours

I'm having the same issue with my 4770k, but in re-reading the primegrid specs I think it's because I'm running an older version of Windows. What version of Windows(including service pack) are you running? I'm about to try Linux and will report back in 30 minutes or so.

EDIT: it's running fine on Linux and automatically received the AVX WU's.

Uh, oh, Biodoc, you've got competition. :) Which looks to be good for the TeAm overall, as we're fifth!

P.S. I don't expect to appear anywhere for about 10 more days.

Edit: Oh, and I had to suspend one CPU WU, as the bandwidth limits on my Core 2 quad seemed to be slowing them all down too much. Hopefully 3 can make it in by the end of the race. If not, I'll suspend another tomorrow.

Kicking butt is a definite exaggeration, lol.

In any case, I'm shifting over to Stallion WUs atm, so I don't expect to be able to stay in such fine company for very long now...

On a related note, I used to think that PrimeGrid was just about mercilessly torturing CPUs, but these long GPU WUs look like unforgiving bastards too, given that the OC that I was just forced to back off on account of my hotter card could happily game, bit-mine, or crunch MW@H and F@H 24/7.

Damned million-digit-long prime number crunching...

I did one pony WU before the race started and I have completed one after it started (downloaded it 15 minutes after race started).

I haven't received credit for either one. They both say pending. Does anyone know why?

http://www.primegrid.com/results.php?hostid=420104

It's pending validation, so it's waiting for somebody else to complete the same WU and confirm they receive the same result.

In addition to what Icecold said ... points for the race are given right away which you can see by going to PrimeGrid main page (http://www.primegrid.com/) and clicking on Race Standings for "Participants" and "Teams"! You are listed :)
