Another PrimeGrid race is coming up! The Full Moon Challenge, a.k.a. the "you'd have to be loony to crunch in this heat but we'll try it anyway" challenge ;), starts on Sunday July 25 and runs for only one day!

What you need:
  • One or more fast x86 processors. (Even slow ones will do!)
  • Windows, Linux, or MacOS 10.4+. (Linux may be up to 10% faster, this time only.)
  • BOINC, attached to PrimeGrid (http://www.primegrid.com/).
  • Your PrimeGrid Preferences with only "Proth Prime Search (LLR)" selected in the Projects section.

What won't help (but won't hurt either):
  • A 64-bit OS.
  • A large amount of RAM.
  • Any video cards.

This challenge starts July 25 at 18:00 UTC and lasts for only 24 hours. Work not downloaded and uploaded within the challenge will not be counted. Should you not be able to be in front of one or more computers at that time, just set their queue level very low (0.01 days). This also makes it more likely that you will be a prime finder rather than a double-checker.

Welcome and good luck to all! :)

I'll get in with 2 quads. I won't tweak my neighbor's X3 for one day. He has zero interest in crunching, but he lets me use it for BOINC because I built the rig and donated the psu and ram. I don't know how long that will last.

It was tough for me to get WUs. All CPUs are busy but now they have server problems: Feeder not running.

EDIT: Just as I posted, the server feeder is now ok! :)

Wow, this project runs hot! My cpu temps are up about 3-4 degrees vs SIMAP.

I've had trouble getting WUs - server problems etc. I am running at only approx 80% of available capacity ... :(
OK, there are some 18 computers ... but I want full caches!

It seems that the database server is overloaded. It goes down quite so often ... and can not serve WUs, receive results and post stats ...
Please have patience - the server ususally comes up after some 20 - 30 minutes - and then goes down again ... ;)

I am not too concerned about the server not keeping up. What I am concerned about is the last 48 WUs were refused because the server thinks they have been reported. I scrolled back through the message log and found bunches of red messages about the double reporting and about lost WUs.

I have gone back to SIMAP.

I've had the same thing happen to me.

Don't worry about those. They just mean that the first time you connected, but got an error (like HTTP internal server error), the result was actually received at the server; the acknowledgement just never got back to you. So the second time the result is reported, it's "refused".

Edit: "Resent lost WU" means the server had a WU ready for you when that HTTP internal server error occurred, but you never got it, so it's "resent". Again, nothing to worry about.

I'm losing ground. :( Maybe I should have overclocked.

Fortunately, the TeAm's not, at 14th place! :)

Hmmmm, This really shows the problem with short WUs: whan many are crunching powerfully the infrastructure get overloadad: the servers cannot keep up, can not crunch the stats (i.e. which are done, whoch are sent and by whom) and threwrfore the system comes to a halt, restarts, comes to a halt (due to the queue which builds up during the halt), and so on.
A very good stress test for PrimeGrid, which however PrimeGrid fails.

That does not bother me. I've set SIMAP as a secondary project, with PrimeGrid's resources set to 1000, SIMAP's set to 10. SIMAP gets something crunched during the interim when my comps have no PrimeGrig WUs to calculate. <Petrus shrugs>.

We have dropped some positions.
OTOH: these numbers are really not up to date: I have at least 150 WUs crunched and ready to be uploaded and - as I said in the previous post - the servers can not keep up. But this hits all equally ...
Thye cleaning-up will probably take some time - and is in this race very important! Keep yopur crunchers on the project after the finish so that all reported WUs can be verified and all credits assigned to the correct cruncher as soon as possible!

Thanks for the Stats!

The project home page is down. The few WUs I have left to crunch seem to upload fine but none are reporting and am getting no new WUs.

I got more than 650 results uploaded and reported during the past hour.
It may be so that the servers are working OK now ... for some time ... at least

Yeah, I get to my computer at 10am this morning, and discover that it hasn't been crunching since 2am. And that it's still planning to wait 16 hours before I manually update it.

I think this is officially the worst PG race ever. :(

Well, not the worst. that one is still to come ... ;) But it was fun anyway. Now I am waiting for the stats - I have so many WUs pending - more than 13K worth ... lets see what that will be in points in the challenge and in credits in BOINC-stats!

Currently, I have a little over 2k worth pending which will come out to about 3.8k real.

Overall, it looks like it will be a 3 way race for 14th-16th.
