prime95 - one core hangs and runs slow

so I'm testing with Prime95 using Custom 4096 test that fills my ram i put it at 3800mb.



I dont get any errors, but i notice one core has literally twice or three times as many tests completed than the other.

the 2nd core is completing a test about every minute or so, while the 1st core will go maybe 5 tests at that rate, then hang up for 15 minutes without completing a test. then it will resume for a few tests going ~1/min.

it happens frequently enough that the 1st core has only half of the tests that the first does.


what does this imply or mean or whatever? i know it cant be normal...

small fft runs about equal. occt runs without errors but it kinda hides what its doing ... so maybe its doing the same.

background programs still need to run on a core.

i didnt have much of anything running... and even so, i thought it was supposed to average the background programs over the two cores randomly (ie. evenly)


if the cores was a minute or two apart i would chalk it up to that... but its literally going half as fast... over 2 hours one core completed 130 tests and the other only 60.


that soudns like something more than background...
