Prime95 on Pentium D 3.2GHz

Hi, so I just got a new computer, and I'm wondering if a system this *good* (compared to what I had before) can actually take the stress of running Prime95 at full blast.

I just got a PC w/ a Pentium D proc at 3.2GHz. Since running two copies of prime95 means that I will be running at about 2.5 times the throughput as my old P4 2.4GHz, I was wondering if the system can take it. I know a P4 2.4GHz was made to handle it, but I don't know about the Pentium D.

Yeah, as long as it's adequately cooled. Any problem-free CPU can handle being run at 100% capacity 100% of the time.

The Pentium D is known to be a power house and gets really warm, not to say hot. The Watts usage ranges from 95 up to 135 (for the 950). So I wouldn't wonder if sometimes you hit 55°C or above. But of course, the cooler the better.

Ack. It restarted last night while I was in bed. I'm going to try running two copies at priority 1. Yesterday I had one at priority 8 and the other at priority 10.

I might want to look at getting a better fan, if the warranty allows.

I have a free version of Hmonitor, and it says my CPU temp is 60.

How long has the CPU been running Prime95 when you took that screenshot?
Was it the "real" Prime95 or the benchmarks of Prime95?
If the benches, which ones?

How long: A few minutes. I watched it well after that screenshot, and the temperature stays almost constant at 60.0 degrees. Occasionally it'll do 61.0 or 59.0, but literally for less th an a second. I'll check how hot it runs without prime95 running at all. That might show if it's a fan issue.

"real" or benchmark: real

I'd consider getting a better fan for it. If you pop into CPUs I'm sure they'd have some good suggestions. I'd suggest one but I don't really know anything about good coolers these days, let alone for intel hardware.

I don't like to see my processors running over 50*C. Besides, it warms the room up too much.
