Prime95 issues with Hyperthreading?

I'm running a 3.06 P4 on a new Asus P4GE-VM with Hyperthreading enabled. Using two separate Prime95 instances of Torture Test (one for each 'processor'), one of the instances crashes after anywhere from five minutes to a couple of hours, with the following error:

FATAL ERROR: Reading from temp file.
Execution halted.
Choose Test/Continue to restart.

Sometimes I restart and there is no problem for hours, other times it stops again.

My CPU temp goes from 45C at rest to 55C at 100% utilization. Is this normal?

Has anyone else run across this issue? Is it related to a problem with Prime95 itself? BTW, I am running version 18.1.1.

You should download the latest version of Prime95, which is up to 23.5 now. The newer versions have been heavily optimized for the P4 and would be a better test of your system.

First, get the latest version as suggested! 🙂

Second, how are you launching the executable? Here we have network drives that are on servers that are in different states. (don't ask!) Well wouldn't you just know it SOMETIMES those drives go away momentarily. I found when launching P95 from one of those mapped drives, I would receive that error!

Make SURE you're running the P95 exe from a local drive and make sure that drive is healthy. In order to run multiple processes, copy the EXE to a subfolder from the original and run from there.
