Two weeks ago work sent out a building wide e-mail asking everyone to please leave the nesting duck alone. I hadn't seen her, so all this time I'd assumed she was under the bushes up against the building or someplace relatively safe. Yesterday I used a door I don't normally use and found her:

The Environment
Look a little closer

I see somebody has put water out there for her but she's been sitting there completely exposed for the last two weeks.

Google tells me she probably has a couple weeks to go if the eggs are actually fertilized, there will be some very sad women in the office if she sits there for a month and has nothing to show for it.

Is the nest next to the rock by the pole? A few feet from the lot? That's a strange place

they'll be even more sad if a male duck is around and when the ducklings come and he kills them all. Had a duck with ducklings where I use to work, and the first day we spotted the ducklings a male duck was chasing them around and killing them. I don't think any made it. The females who worked there were all screaming at us men to save them. I had to look shit up on the internet after wards, but apparently this isn't that uncommon. It was pretty crazy to watch, especially with 20 females running around screaming and in tears they tried to scare off the male duck.

Yep if you look close you can see the bowl in the first picture (right in the center of the picture). Quite the genius she is.

What's funny is that part of town has a lot of open, green areas and even several wetland areas where animals are specifically protected. There's a very large wetland area about a half mile up the road. What a dumbass duck :p
