I ran Memtest86+ ver. 1.27 right after I put together the following system:
-P4P800-SE
-Prescott 3.2e
-Crucial cas3 direct from Crucial
-ATI 9800 pro
First off, Memtest tells me my 200mhz, DDR400 ram is running at 199mhz, DDR398. Then the test takes two minutes longer to complete a single pass than does my AMD 2500+ when testing with the same ram. The "Wall Clock" also does a far bit more jumping around (three to ten second gaps before reporting).
I did get a memory error when testing the ram on the AMD system after 30 passes, on test 5. I tried them one stick at a time, then together with 50+ passes and no errors. I also exchanged the motherboard.
Now I've tried Prime95, and it sticks at the first test and doesn't go any further. There is some suggesting in the video forum that it might be a confilct with the ATI drivers, but I don't know how else to test if the problem is with the ram (or even if there is a problem). I don't find the Memtest method reliable (the earlier version 3.2 won't even boot in this system).
One more issue, I tried turning on "Turbo mode" and the computer wouldn't boot. I thought that was pretty basic. Should I be looking at ditching the Crucials next?
