Hi,

1.How does prime95 tell you if it has any errors? Theres no scroll bar in the window and the only way to "scroll up" is by enlarging the window but even then I can't see everything. Does it stop running as soon as it encounters an error or what?

2.I'm using these settings: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16446 are they correct for testing my cpu?

3.It's been 8 hrs, can i stop and play now lol, or should I wait more?

It stops instantly when an error occurs. The tray icon will go from red to yellow as well. 8 hours with no errors pretty much means you are stable, but if you want to make 100% sure with no room for doubt run it for 24 hours. Personally I have never had a system fail after running 8+ hours but I've heard of some people who had failures after running Prime for 12 hours or more.

24 hours to be safe. Make sure you are testing both cores. I usually run a 24-hour block on small FFTs and a 24-hour block on large FFTs but one or the other should suffice.

It is not uncommon to see a second core on the X2 chips fail after 12 hours or so.

I think I'm testing both cores, however under Task manager it says each instance is only at 50% cpu usage... what gives?

Means you aren't testing both cores. You gotta install prime95 twice in different locations and launch from those loactions and set the affinity in task manager to core 0 for one instance and core 1 for the second instance.

Actually I found out both are running, just in the processors tab it lists CPU use at 50/50 for each instance but under performance tab both CPUs are at 100%

They are using 50% of the system's total processing power, since you have two cores that means one whole core is being used.

EDIT: By the way, you can probably play without turning off prime95, since it should have its priority set to idle when its not the foreground application.

Are you sure? Because it show's each CPU at 100% usage under the performance tab... but under processes it shows usage at 50/50. I think I'm doing everything right but now I'm not certain.

Can anyone shed some light on whether or not I'm actually using both cores? Thanks!

Your description sounds like you are using 100% of two processors ( both cores )....
