I have been trying to run Prime 95 on Vista to test my max OC ability but when I run torture test it bogs my PC to almost unusable. If I run two instances of it to run both cores my PC becomes basically completely unresponsive. I have been using CPU Burn-in instead and that works fine no problems at all.

Intel C2D E6300 @3Ghz (Currently)
Gigabyte P35-DS3R
2GB OCZ PC6400
ATI Raedon X1900XT

Use Orthos instead.

Or you can use the newer version of prime95 which loads both cores automatically!

Are you using the Blend test? That particular test uses a lot of memory, each instance will try to allocate almost all of the PC's available memory for itself and end up with a huge amount of swapping.

Orthos does the same thing.

That seems to be the issue, for some reason XP handles it fine with 2 running blend, Vista does not like it at all.

Doesn't Vista hog RAM? If the system is fighting with Prime for usage, it'll slow it down to hell.

Interesting. I wonder if this is a bug in Vista's kernel or something. Why a background app would bog down a machine until it is unusable is beyond me.

Vista tends to have a issue with background apps like that. I used to run boinc but in Vista even with boinc running with idle setting it slows my games down like 25%.
