Prime 95 and RAM

Hi all,

I bought an xp1700+ a while back from newegg.. got the week 45 which I was able to push past 2.4 GHz at 2.0v cpu voltage core. After reading a few more threads, I've decided to back down to 1.85v to at least keep this processor alive a little longer 😛

Anyways, right now I have this processor with the 8RDA+ and Crucial PC2100 256mb x 2 DDR @ 181mhz (~2.26 GHz). Prime 95 runs fine for a while, but eventually hits an error. I've figured a few possibilities from this data and would like to get others' input (especially if you have a similar setup). I doubt temperature is a problem at all, my SLK-800 keeps this proc around 46c full load.

In short, would buying some higher speed ddr (pc3200 for example) possibly fix my problem? Thanks in advance. 🙂

run memtest86 to see if ram is the culprit

but prime95 error usually, if not always, means a cpu mathematical error
try backing down on the oc, or raising vcore a bit to see if it goes away
if it does, go back to 1.85v and lower the fsb a bit
