Primary or secondary IDE connector?

I Have SATA hard drives on my computer and don't need the primary IDE connector. Can I use it for my optical drives or do I need to use the seconday IDE connector?
 
you can use the primary for optical drives as well, it does not make any differance. If you have 2 optical drives, having them on separate channels would be better anyway
