I just got an external USB harddrive. How should I partition it? I want to have two paritions, one ~40Gb and the other ~20GB. Which of the following should I do (I will not be installing an OS to the drive)?

P/P
P/E
E/E

Thanks!

I'd just make two primary, you don't need an extended unless you need it to hold logical drives.

Like Nothinman said, there's no real reason to use an extended partition unless you need it. And the only reason you would need it is if you need at least 5 total partitions, where the extension will hold "logical" drives. So go with P/P - keep it simple.
This is not possible. The PC BIOS limits you to a single extended partition. You could do "L/L" - two logicals within a single extension. But that's just adding more complexity than you need. P/P is the way to go.
