"primary master drive fails" error

i get that error when i boot up after a game freezes and i always hafta reformat and stuff. do you think the problem is the hard drive or the ide cables?

same game each time? ALWAYS have to reformat...? how many times has this happened? have you reformatted each time, to ultimately have to do it again? does the re-install of windows work w/out any problems (prior to playing this one game)? have you run scandisk to check for surface errors?
