Simply because your not using a 80 conductor cable on the Primary IDE channel, which will limit you to UDMA 3 I believe.

Bingo. You need a 40 pin/80 conductor cable to get UDMA4/5.

but i only got this message when i swapped CPUs from 1 gig to a 1.4 gig amd. is it still an IDE cable problem? thanks

yes i got it yesterday, i knew when i saw it what happened, i used the wrong ide cable {40pin}, I needed my ATA100 80pin cable so i could use the ATA 100 conection to my RAID & harddrives.
