OK, I have a WD 80gb drive that has failed. I have files on the drive that I want to recover if possible, but I'm stuck as to what I should do next. Here is some info about the drive:

- The drive creates the error message "Primary Hard Disk Failure" when booting up.

- It does this when set as a slave also.

- The drive is detectable from bios.

- The drive does not show up in My Computer.

- The drive spins.

- Repair/Formating from the winXP cd doesn't work.

- When using GetDataBack for NTFS i get unknown error (27) on all sectors and no files show up.

What should I try next?
Any help appreciated.

I'd try a few more data recovery programs unless you're willing to spend $1000+ to get it recovered through some service. The more you mess with it, the less likely they'll be able to get it back. There are many more programs like GetDataBack that work just as well. Go to download.com and search for data recovery. One that comes to mind is called something like 'Virtual Lab Client'.

Burn a Knoppix Live CD and see what you can see with it, after setting the boot order to boot from CD. If Knoppix sees the files in your HD some or all of it may be recoverable. How? that depends on what it sees. If it sees nothing you may have to resort to more expensive methods

It is a physical problem, you are unable to fix the drive by software. If you really want to get your data back, send your drive to data recovery firm

I tried JP idata Recovery Lab for a years ago, they provide fast service, free return shipping and charge reasonable price.

One wonders if you don't get kickbacks from the above company since this is like the 5th thread you've replied in pimping this same company.

Edit: Correction - at this moment, you've got exactly 7 posts with EVERY SINGLE ONE pimping this same company! I find that rather suspicious.

Have you tried to plug the drive into another computer and configure it as a slave? By using another hard drive to load the OS you might be able to access the drive and get the necessary files. It's a long shot since it shows up as "Primary Hard Disk Failure" but I would try it anyway.
