So I'm hanging out this eve, ready to play a few rounds of BF2 and the lovely Alienware 7500 with the screaming FX-55 shows a black screen and starts beeping every 5 seconds. Oh dear.
It wouldn't have been my first choice of boxes, but when the missus surprises you with a new computer it's difficult to argue. So, I contact AW. Or tried to. First, I have to go through sales. Then they connect me with Tech Support. Tech Support disconnects me after 25 minutes on hold. "Ring, Ring", bzzzz." I call back and worm my way back to a human. A nice one even; "Li". She knows her stuff and doesn't treat me like a lUser. Good deal. We figure out the Mobo is toast. (NVIDIA nForce4 SLI / MCP04 chipset)

Since my Dearheart sprang for the service upgrade, they'll send a tech out to replace it. However, the crux of the biscuit is that I have to wait for AW to send me a new mobo (on their dime) and they WON'T ship it overnight, even though I offered to pay for the extra expense. That's just wrong. On top of that, they wanted (and got) a CC number to hold for a possible non-return, EVEN though their (yeah, contractor) tech was going to replace the mobo. Of course, he won't be calling for 48 hrs. after shipment.
Anyone need a $5000 Green Paperweight?
FWIW, when a single core box with these kind of BOINC specs goes AWOL, one must weep:
Memory 2047.48 MB
Cache 976.56 KB
Measured floating point speed 2476.78 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed 4585.46 million ops/sec
