It's personal preference, but if I was speccing out a system that was for sure going to get 3 GPUs, I would automatically go to the system that supports that natively, and that is X99.

Hmm.. But with BroadwellK that is coming in 2 years and going to work on the 1150 socket ?>

Having been the SLI route in the past, and knowing how well today's high-end GPUs perform, I would just not want to deal with multi-GPU anymore unless it was an absolute necessity. It doesn't always work, and it doesn't seem to improve minimum frame rates too much anyway.

So , stick with 2 cards is what you saying ? Will a GTX970 SLI or a 290X CF support 3 monitors at 1440p ?

No, I think if you are for sure gaming on 3 monitors, you should just get 3 GPUs and X99. It's the cleanest solution, imo. I guess I wasn't convinced that 3 monitors was actually what you were going to do.

I guess I am...

Would yousuggest getting the 3Way-290X or 3Way970X ? If i was to sell the GPUs, which of those can i get more money on resale ?

Also, 290X perfoms better than the 970s, yes ?

I might go with the GTX 970 just because of the power consumption, but you'd be better off hashing that part of it out in the GPU forum.

5820K is quite power hungry, especially in OC mode. Too bad they don't have 4770K on display, at those speeds Haswell is even more power-efficient. But yeah, if you don't care about power, X99 is the way to go.

If you go three way nvidia with a 5820K be sure to pick a motherboard that the splits the PCIe lanes 8x/8x/8x and not 16x/8x/4x as SLI require at least 8x for all cards.

A lot of the forums say the 290X CF is faster... Atleast in multi display liike i would like to do..
I don't have a dog in the fight, but people say a lot of things. Even if 290X is marginally faster under certain conditions, no one can get away from the fact that the power draw is very significantly more, this is no issue with one card, a small issue with two cards, and a bigger issue with three. Take this to the Video Card forum and I'm sure you will generate quite a debate.
