Well, rumor has it that PrideFC has been bought out for ~$65 million and will be announced at the next Pride event. If so, this may very well be the end of PrideFC due to the fact they already lost their TV deal in Japan. Pride was the cream of the crop, best of the best. Now the only thing that will be left is the sh!tty UFC (there are other organizations, but nothing of the caliber of Pride). This is a VERY, VERY sad day for MMA, and a great lose.

All I can say is THIS FREAKIN' SUCKS!

Hopefully this isn't true, but rumor has it that the deal is as good as done. :(

Update 03/26/07: The rumor has now been confirmed. It is now confirmed that the Fertitta brothers (who own UFC) have bought Pride. For now they say they will operate separately, but I don't see that lasting for too long. Needless to say, I'm not happy. :|

Pride 33 was AWESOME and it would be sad to see it go. The only positive is that the UFC can bring over some of the guys and we can get some fantasy matchups

Chuck vs Wandy or Shogun
Nog vs anyone
Gomi vs Sherk
Fedor vs anyone in UFC HW - love to see Fedor vs AA actually

So ya it might suck but it might be good for the fans. Btw, where did you hear this? I have heard a lot of rumors lately but just rumors.

From a pretty reliable source. He's mentioned things like this to me in the past and he's pretty much batting 1000. But hopefully he's wrong about this. :(

The problem with Pride fighters coming to the UFC is that the fighters have to abide by these bullsh!t rules because it's in the US. It just won't be the same if the fighters come to the US (UFC). Even when Pride comes to the US, it isn't the same. I still like watching it, but I MUCH prefer it be held in Japan.

Oh it sucks alright. If they don't shut down Pride, I've got a BAD feeling Pride's talent will quickly sink to the sh!tty UFC level after the current crop of Pride fighters are gone. If it gets to the level of TUF kids, I just won't what MMA anymore, which will kill me since I've been following MMA ever since UFC 1 and World Combat. :( Well, I can always stick to K-1, but it is NEVER on PPV. :(

UFC sucks, i hate the 'octagon' and plus is almost all US fighters and doesn't bring the best fighters from around the world. If they screwup Pride like that, i'll be pissed.

Too many Pride fans think they are better than everyone else. If Pride fighters go to fight the UFC fighters, we, the fans win. Perhaps we can finally find out who the best fighters are rather than argue back and forth...or in the case of many Pride fans, claim that "our" fighters are so much better and all the others are just cans. I am not excited to see Pride being bought out, don't get me wrong. However, they were losing money and losing fighters due to poor business decisions. Besides, now I can hope that the Fertitta bros fire Jerry Millen at the very least.

edit: oh ya, I forgot to mention that I'm not a big fan of stomps anyway so I'm glad to see them go. I wish we could get knees and kicks to the head of downed opponent like Pride. I think that, along with UFC's elbows, would be the most realistic, but yet safe enough, rule set.

Listen, initially, I'd LOVE to see Pride fighters stomp a mud hole in the UFC fighters. But once the current crop of Pride fighters are gone (retired or whatever), I feel they will be replaced with sh!tty TUF type fighters, which is AWFUL! Pride was ALWAYS pulling in great new talent from around the world. UFC pulls in fighters from the local bar. And THAT is what I fear Pride will turn into. :|

Dude, I've got to nova K-1 fights. Why they don't show K-1 on PPV or HBO or whatever, I have no idea.

At least they say this year's Price fights will still be in Japan...I sincerely hope they let them fight out of Japan and keep the two circles separate save the yearly uber-battle (which will be awesome).

I'm excited to see Chuck vs Rampage at UFC71 :D

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

EDIT: Wait! There is some hope yet.

The most intriguing of the reports leading up the press conference has been Fight! Miruhon, which has stated that contrary to other reports the Fertittas have not purchased the assets of PRIDE entirely, but rather have entered into a new company in which they hold a minority stake. At least two other Japanese firms will allegedly have stake in the new company, including Nagoya-based Tokai Television Broadcasting Co., Ltd., a subsidary of the Fuji Television Network, Inc. who terminated their network television deal with PRIDE and Dream Stage Entertainment this past June, after six years of partnership.

I can understand the concern. We don't need anymore C level fighters or Div I wrestlers than just lay on somebody for 15 minutes for a decision. However UFC has been doing a better job of getting talent. Just recently they've pulled in A.Silva, Rampage, CroCop, Okami, Marquardt (he's not real recent), etc. The UFC does have some serious talent. There are always going to be great fighters in the world and I think they'll go wherever the money is. If the new UFC/Pride is going to offer the most money, they are going to get the best fighters.

I would ideally like to see the UFC stay in the US and Pride stay in Japan. Then once or twice a year have a UFC vs Pride type event. Maybe once a year have the champions fight each other and give that person a "super belt" but let the loser of that fight still keep their original belt.

How do you get rid of stomps, but have kicks to the head?
