Prices of Radeon 9700 128 going up?

Anyone notice prices of Radeon 9700 128 going up? Checked pricewatch, the cards used to be $200. Now all stores they are all going up past $220 now. And all still have uparrows(meaning they are still going up). The hell?

Q. Prices of Radeon 9700 128 going up?
A. No

Seriously, that's a stupid question. Prices do not go up on video cards released a year ago. ATI certainly hasn't raised their prices so any raise in price is artificial. If you care about 13 bucks, wait another couple weeks. And better yet, waste our time with a "Prices of Radeon 9700 128 going down?" thread when the prices come down again.

And before the "you chose to post in this topic" nazis start; I consider it a worthwhile minute to stop modempower from posting any more stupid topics in the future which are easily answered by the basic principles of commodities.

You should be right here, but you're not bud. They have indeed been on the rise the last month or so.

One example, and it is NOT an isolated incident.

And really, if you are going to be an arrogant punk in other people's threads, you need to take it to off-topic or the politics and news forum where your sort of crap belongs.

And thats a seriously stupid answer. They are still in high demand and no longer being manufactured. Ergo, the law of supply and demand can and will kick in. Prices go up. List prices may not, but what the retailers charge are a different story.

Then why did 20 stores raise their prices $20 and still rising moron. Get a clue before you start talking trash.

Sapphire is very nice. They're one of the larger ATi partners, and even some Built By ATi cards are from Sapphire's plants. Dell uses Sapphires too.

Well, no matter what anyone says, the price rise is TEMPORARY - dictated by the simple laws of (high) demand and (limited) supply.

The 9700 is (still) a "classic" card and very desirable from a price/performance viewpoint.

Thank god at least one other person understands...

What makes you think supply will become less limited in the future? Think of the 9500 Pro--prices haven't continued to fall.

Maybe when the 5900 Value comes out, we'll see some more downward movement.

chip supplies for all radeon cards are meant to be under supplied, just didnt expect it to do quite so well or worse than expected yeilds, seems to be a bit of both. the result seems to be the 9800's starting even more expensive than the 9700's, which still have hardly come down in price unless you dig deep. The 9800's are expected to simply replace the 9700, rather than the norm of 9700 dropping to a lower market segment first. The same is happening with 9500pro and 9600pro's (the entire point of the 9600pro is its cheaper to make than the low margin 9500pro), although its more expected in the middle performance cards especially when the 9500's are so costly to produce.

nvidia did similar in a more obvious way, replacing GF3 with GF3ti500 & ti200, and GF4ti4400 with ti4600 & ti4200, iirc. The prices of the "older" cards did not increase however and steadily dropped in price, unlike the 9700pro which has kept its price very well. By example, Crucial was selling 9700pro for about £280 for almost a year, and then they simply replaced it (then at £270 iirc) with their 9800pro at £286. Crucial is a good example because they sell their own cards direct and forgo the ridiculous markups (some places are trying to flog the same crucial card for over £350). maybe pricing structure is different in N.A. (bloody lot cheaper regardless), but that seems to be whats happening over this side of the pond.

people seriosuly need to stop being so fvcking anal about the occasional accidental repost or something they personally see as trivial. thread title is pretty clear on the contents so you werent tricked into opening the thread and wasting a minuite of your precious time, who's the nazi?
