prices creeping up for 2x8GB DDR3?

hey all, noticed that prices are slowly creeping up for DDR3 in the 2x8gb segment, especially the tighter 9-9-9-24 timings. Is DDR3 projected to go up in price in 2013 as the big names shut down DDR3 manufacturing?(apparently there are too many DDR3 modules on the market now) Any clarification or forecasts would be appreciated. cheers.

I think the difference is there aren't any deep discounts like there were before the holiday season, which makes it seem like prices are high.

8GB is good, you dont wanna waiste RAM space ya know...

can you upgrade that to 32GB RAM
............. ?

me too but I am in Canada you guys are USA.

8GB kit is about $45 with no free shipping!

I want the Samsung ram but it's not available in Canada now.

I passed on 16gb Kingston 1.5v for $59.99 with free shipping. Biggest mistake ever!

Yeah I think the DDR3 DRAM market has bottomed. Prices can and will go up. They did with DDR1 and DDR2. It will be no different with DDR3.

Right now we're at about $30 for an 8GB DDR3 DIMM. I don't think we will see prices much lower than that. I bet we will see stagnant or even slightly rising prices.

Also, once mainstream DDR4 adoption starts, DDR3 prices will start rising as volume production shifts to DDR4.

I see.

Well, there's a sale on ncix.com for 2x8gb sticks of Crucial ballistix @ 9-9-9-24 timings (ddr3 1600) for $84.99 from $129.99, is that a good price to buy those tight timings? I hardly see tight timing 16gb of ddr3 1600 for under $90. Thats the lowest i'll see it u think?

I won't own Crucial's Ballistix line of memory.

between before chrismas discounts and the slight normal price increase before school starts / wholesalers still closed for chrismas, a small increase at this time of year is normal. Now if it is still here in march, I might be inclined to agree with the price increasing as something besides being seasonal.

Wow Canada prices are soo much higher. You can get a 8GB kit for 25 or 30 dollars here in Los Angels. Where you live its like 40 dollars possibly more. sighs D:

I'd say it's official. Paid $74.99 for 16gb ddr3 in February, same brand same vendor is $119 now. Newegg is $130+. Damn.

Prices are indeed creeping up. I don't get it since the horrible PC sales should result in a market oversupply of all sorts of components.

we still have core 2 duos that are plenty fast for users email, excel, word processing, terminal services etc. Only needs more ram so the ram is still selling but pc's aren't.

Core 2 duos use ddr2. The upgrade market for all ram is and has always been tiny compared to the market for new builds. Most people never upgrade their computer at all.

There has been dram shortage april/may and possible june. They have been switching production into server and mobile (smart phones) at the expense of pc dram.

You gotta admit, tablet/smartphone has been outselling laptops recently

This Thread was also necroed. The Thread was made on January, BEFORE the DRAM makers price increase two or three months ago, that duplicated Desktop Memory Modules prices.
