i rarely PM anything, but i did PM a desk at officemax that fry's had on sale.

when a store calls another store to see if it's in stock, do they normally identify themselves as the competition? i remember doing a PM before at Compusa to Officemax and they didnt do that when they called.

Yep they normally say "Hi this is Jim from Staples, I'd like to confirm ..."
