Priceline.com sucks

I think their "Supercomputers" need an upgrade. My wife just booked a rental car from their "name your own price" section, and they said her price wasn't available, so she took the lowest price they had.

Then she goes to the vendor's website and sees the car for $6/day less from there. You can't cancel a "name your own price" quote either :|

Use Expedia.com.

Use Expedia.com.

If they don't take your price, offer $1-2/day more. I paid less than half of what I would have through Expedia for a rental for our wedding.

Your wife is doing things in reverse. You research prices at expedia/orbitz/travelocity/etc. first. Then bid lower than that on priceline.

I've saved $1k for my honeymoon in Hawaii and recently over $50/night on a SF hotel.

Rental cars aren't a HUGE savings, but when I got it for Hawaii, a convertible on priceline was the price of an econobox. It was still some savings.

Use biddingfortravel.com in conjunction to find out what successful bids have been made. A little effort goes a long way.

priceline sucks, agreed...

for hotels, i am all about calling the hotel itself... i got a great deal on a penthouse suite (their best & largest) at the Bellagio Las Vegas by calling the hotel directly. the price i paid was $200 lower than what Expedia had and there would have been no guarentee of staying at the Bellagio if I had used them.

for plane tickets, use expedia, orbitz or travelocity.
