Priceline can be frustrating...

Setting up vacation hotel rooms, freaking gave up on Priceline & used sidestep instead.

Got tired of "sorry, you need to change 2 items to resubmit your bid", the place is in the middle of nowhere & don't want to drive 50 + miles to get to the attractions🙁

Goin to Mt. Rushmore, Reptile Gardens, Jewel Cave, then side trip to CO visit some kinfolk🙂

I ran across that problem when booking separate things for Hawaii (man it took 3 hours to book everything). The trick is to use a different credit card... then you can resubmit the same criteria, just a different price again.

Anyway, I saved $1k doing it mostly through Priceline as compared to Liberty Travel... and even ended up with better hotels (best in Maui, better in Kauai). Well worth it... and thank you priceline.

We have kids & definitely want a pool for them to chill in after the sightseeing, I've bid low on Priceline & gotten a "no pool" hotel before🙁

Tried to use Priceline once. Never again. Ended up finding a flight for about the same price on Travelocity, and gasp! I got to pick my own times! None of that "You will fly anywhere between 6 am and 12 am on the day of your departure."

Why does sidestep's web page set off alarms with AdAware? Should I assume their software has some kind of mal/adware?

Anyways I've had mixed luck with Priceline. For training for work I've gotten 4 star hotels for $50 a night. I tried to book a hotel last month in Massachusetts and I got up to $80 for a wide area and couldn't get anything. I knew that one of the hotels it was checking was $83 and change a night without priceline.

PriceLine isn't too bad if you use sites like biddingfortravel.com for your research...know what area has which hotels at what ratings...for instance, say I find out that Area 3 only has 2 3* hotels both with pools...then you're all set, you find out what others have been winning at and bid a little higher for security. As long as you're saving more than you would with expedia or orbitz, then it's all good.

I think I have to plan a 3-day NYC trip in the next two days...hoping to hit the Waldorf-Astoria. 😉 (my first time there in over 12 years)

Can you expect a company that has Willam Shatner/Leonard Nimoy as spokespersons to be NORMAL?

I always found cheaper prices elsewhere so I gave up. What I tried in the past was to find the lowest fare using Travelocity and similar places. Then I went to priceline and tried 1% cheaper and have NEVER once found a match. It is just too frustrating, too easy to get signed up for things you don't want, and never saved me a penny.

I agree with EvilYoda.

Priceline is great for hotels if you use http://www.biddingfortravel.com or http://betterbidding.com/ to check on (1) what others are getting (2) for what price (3) on particular dates. Each also has lists of what hotels are in what areas with what star ratings.

I was using it just last night to look for a 4* room in San Diego a few weekends from now. People often get the Omni, Marriott, or Hyatt in Downtown SD for $65 a night. It happens that the weekend I'm looking for there's a comic book convention in town and I can't get a room with bids up to $90. 🙁

biddingfortravel doesn't even have South Dakota listed, but I think iw would have been useful for other states.

Just called to confirm mini van rental & found out it was cancelled for some unknown reason. They re-reserved me for less $...

Yu-huh, it does. It's at the very bottom under "Wyoming/Idaho/Montana/Dakotas"

I didn't design the site, and I have no affiliation. To be truthful, the lady who runs it (Sheryl) is kinda mean. She's a total tyrant. If she sees me posting this here, it's not out of her character to block my IP or something to that extent. People talk about it at the Flyertalk.com forums every now and then.

I hope that Betterbidding becomes more well known and that people start to use it more because the administrators there are a lot more friendly.

Priceline is great for many cities, the savings can be incredible. We're talking about hundreds of dollars over a few nights. For people on tight budgets, it's unbelievable how much money you can save by going through them. I simply would be unable to go on 3 trips per year if it wasn't for priceline.

I have a friend who routinely gets 4-star hotels in NYC for $50 a night and rental cars for $13 a day, but everytime I have tried to come within spitting distance of prices like that, I swear I hear derisive laughter coming out of my speakers along with "rejected!". I gave up on them. 🙁
