PRICE WARS : BenQ FP241WZ vs Dell 2407WFP-HC

First, I need to say that xtknight's "The LCD Thread" is the single greatest link I've ever had forwarded to me. Thanks for creating it.

Now, it appears after brushing up on this thread that for my purposes (Graphic Design, Multimedia) the standout 24" choices are the BenQ FP241WZ and Dell 2407WFP-HC.

Now, these are listed as ~$790 USD and ~$679 USD respectively, with the BenQ over $110 more than the Dell HC.

Here in Canada however, NCIX offers the BenQ WZ @ $690 CND (ie, $650 USD... that's $140 below market value). Meanwhile, Dell.ca sells the HC at $800 CND ($754 USD), which is over $100 more than the estimated market value listed by xtknight.

I realize estimates are just estimates, but am I crazy for even hesitating to pull the trigger on the BenQ given the price it's going for as a NCIX special of the week... or are there better deals I can get for the Dell HC that I don't know about? If I can get the Dell for roughly the same price as the WZ (which is supposed to be over 100$ pricier than the Dell in the first place) then I may very well go Dell instead of BenQ.

I bought the VW version of the BenQ from NCIX as well and am very happy with it. Try to find a review that has both the WZ and Dell monitors and then decide.

I thought that the dell was down to 599 on their web site. Is the HC the new version?

edit: hmmm, it is 679 now. In reviews somebody mentioned that he bought 2 when they were 100 off, so I'm at least I'm not crazy!

Have you owned any other 24" LCD's released in the past 2 years that you can compare it to? I mean I'm sure I'd be happy with ANY LCD screen after running on the same CRT for the past 7 years, myself.

Try to find a review that has both the WZ and Dell monitors and then decide.

I have tried, but 2407WFP-HC reviews are suspiciously scarce to begin with, and the few that exist don't even bother comparing the HC with the non-HC version... nevermind comparing it with the BenQ WZ. :-(

Unfortunately no I haven't owned any other 24" monitors. Before this I had a 17" LG LCD monitor. You might have to wait a bit then if there aren't many reviews out there. Or look for forum postings (not just this forum) describing user experience.
