i havent been paying too much careful attention to the pricing of LCD monitors, but it seems, to me atleast, that they havent dropped in prices very much... i've been watchign them for about over a year and they prices are still the same, despite their change from a novelty item to almost a standard (included with entry level PCs and de facto standard in schools)

so have the prices stabilized ? or will there soon be something that will catalyze a price drop? i really need a LCD for desk space

buy a dell 2001fp next time it's at $750. it's not the BEST lcd, there are some problems, but i still love it nonetheless. it's just so much easier on the eyes than a CRT. or if u got $ buy a NEC 1080UX+ or something

that cake is simply too expensive for me to eat :D

i have a 19" crt now, which i figure is worth 180$... i dont want to have to spend more than twice that much for a sub-par 17" LCD =\

I got my planar 17"lcd for $400 about 8 months ago, been loving it ever since:D I'm sure they'll fall more as with all technology. I don't see anyting coming that will drastically drop the prices unless some new technolgy comes out allowing them to be made for cheaper...

LCDs seems to have increased in price for the last year.

I remember the cheapest 15s can be had for around 250 after rebate a year ago, now it seems to hover around 300AR.
cheapest 17s used to be 320ish, now its more like 370ish.

Of course this doesnt include hot deals, pm or ymmv bullsh!t.

Yeah, I still haven't seen anything as hot as the dell 1800fp for $380.
I'm glad I got in on that :).

LCD panels are in short supply, hopefully new factories are springing up in Asia to make more.

I'm waiting for the Benq 23" widescreen one to come out so I can make my 1760v the secondary monitor instead, assuming it doesn't cost too much :)

While production methods and thus yields have improved, demand has gone up even quicker at the same time, effectively canceling out any advantages gained. Only with the new factories in Asia soon to come online will we again see dropping LCD prices.

yup, damned demand is still too high to lower prices much if at all. laptops suck up lower end lcds so no glut there either.

How is that possible? Should'nt the crt be easier on the eyes? I'm kind of a newb to lcds but for some reason I thought the crt had superior visuals

lcd = brighter, flicker-free, truer geometry, no screen glare...

crt has better color saturation, though...

tho i have no comfort issue with my crt.. its just taking up too much darn space!
