Price of GDDR5?

Was wondering how much gpu and console manufacturers pay for GDDR5 ram. Obviously not all GDDR5 costs the same for the same amount, since different modules can operate anywhere between 3 and 6 ghz effectively (or even higher), so I'm not looking for exact prices. Anything will do, really.

Right ... what I meant was that I'm looking for any insight on gddr5 prices from any memory manufacturer, or at least an estimate that somebody remembers off the top of their heads ...

google for "gddr spot price" it's likely somewhere below $1 per chip for the commonly used stuff.

Dunno if mercury research provides this kinda info on there website, might be worth a look.

So... they sell them for 200% or more of what they cost to make?

A bit off-topic but does anyone know why GPU's don't have expandable memory anymore? I know it's all BGA now rather than sockets, but is there any specific reason why you can't get a GPU with like a SO-DIMM slot on it to expand the memory?

Latency is my guess, the buffer is ALWAYS getting refreshed, and a slot wont give as good latenncy as stuff soldered on, plus there are no GDDR5 sticks.
