In February 2005 (73 months ago) I bought a new battery for my 1997 Mazda 626Lx 4 cylinder coupe with an 84 month limited warranty for $54.99. It won't hold a charge lately and I figure I have ~$3 on the warranty from them. However they tell me the price is now $99.99 for the one with the 84 month warranty. $89.99 if I'll settle for a 72 month warranty. 😱 I bitched over the phone and they said "things have gone up." I go, "that's almost double the price!"

I called Costco and they told me I have to come in to see if they have the battery for my car and find out the price.

I currently use my car relatively seldom, putting on ~1500 miles/year. I keep a float or trickle charger on the battery the last few years to keep it alive and ticking and healthy (I have a couple of different chargers).

Where can I get a reasonably priced battery? Or do I have to settle for a $90 battery?

Costco batteries are good and affordable. I'd be very very surprised if they don't have one for your vehicle. Just stop by and look at the application manual...

You live under a rock or something? Have you seen the news? Prices have been going up for a while now for nearly everything.

$90 for a battery with an 72 month warranty is pretty good. I paid $90 for a battery for my 1991 Miata, which is a glorified lawn mower battery, with a 24 month warranty.

Dude, going up is one thing, 81.8% increase in 6 years is another. :hmm:

In 2005 the CDN $ was like 62cents compared to the US $ now our dollar is > the US $ and prices have sort of reflected that a little here. I wish I could have bought a battery for $56 then and $90 would be closer to what I payed both then and now

IT wasn't the strength of the CDN$ that did that it was the weakness of the US$ so now you pay the same for Chinese parts that we do
