Price of a 30" HDTV by Black Friday

What do you think the average price will be by then? Assuming it's a LCD since I don't think there are any plasmas at that size.

Now would be a pretty stupid time to ask that question. Black Friday is still 6 months away. Anything could happen in the HDTV market to change prices. At this point all you'll receive is pointless speculation.

Here's my guess: $350. What's that based on? I just assumed the prices would fall, but there's no way to tell you how much they'll fall.

I got my Olevia 32" LCD for $380 last year's Black Friday so I'm expecting a 37" for that price this year.

Probably starting at $350 for a low end no name brand 90 day warranty door buster special.

I can't wait until Black Friday!

I bought my Olevia 32" for under $500 on black friday of this past year. I'm sure we'll see the same size of lcd sets going for $400 or less. Those prices would totally rock.

Seems excessive for a sdtv. What's so special about it?

Er, it's a HDTV. Got HDMI, RGB, 3 or 4 composite inputs, cable and air inputs. I don't remember what it's called, but it has a high-def air tuner, though no high-def cable tuner (nor a slot for a card).

HDTV in 4:3, why that sounds splendid...

HD for $270? Damn skippy. The professional guy who calibrated it said it was better than a Sony, and he's been doing calibrations and general TV maintenance since the 60's. Associated with LionAV, a well-respected alliance of calibrators. Considering the Samsung Slimfit and Sony XBR CRTS cost more and have well-known geometry issues (I've seen two 970's with noticably bowing issues) I'm happy with what I got. Since I still play the occasional video game, a big 4:3 screen is a good thing.

Anyway, it's stepholder while I wait for thin-screen TVs to mature to my satisfaction. There's been talk of another 2 or 3 technologies (laser, OLED, and SED) in addition to plasma, LCD, DLP, and CRT, so I just wanted something cheap but nice to hold me over.

Cool thing: I went at 6:00 on BF to get one. I didn't wait in line, I just went in as the line was herded in. No TVs out, and none were left according to the floor guy. I went back at 7PM, since Fatwallet reported some stores getting more shipments of stuff later in the day. There WEREN'T anymore shipments, but I found one, the very last one, actually, on the floor. When I asked the floor guy if they had any (since I missed the box sitting in the middle of a non-TV aisle) I asked if they had any. "Yep." I asked the question a couple of times to make sure (though it was loud) since it didn't seem possible for 7PM at night. According to the salesman, they had misplaced the Insignias. A bunch of very large boxes that were door-busters. They somehow misplaced them. I have no clue how that's possible. Anyway, I got mine and am happy with it.

ahh, the only 27" insignia I saw on the BB website plainly said standard definition. Is the HD one not made anymore?

(insignia is a best buy exclusive brand, correct?)

Yep, it's BB house brand. I just checked the website, and it looks like you're right. As a whole, the industry is phasing out CRTs, so I guess they feel that it's only worth it (on a small scale) for standard def stuff, but only LCD/DLP/Plasma for high-deginition. Pity, I quite like mine.
