These X1800 cards aren't very appealing. While the lower priced cards seem reasonable, anything after about $350 isn't a good idea considering the X1900 XT we found above going for $400 (AMIR). We feel the performance found with X1900 XT would be well worth the ~$50 additional cost. However, we can give a moderate recommendation to the Sapphire Radeon X1800XL 256MB [RTPE: 100133] going for $292.

What about these cards?

Or maybe, you could get a 512MB Version for only 8 dollars more than what they quoted for the 256MB version

Or this one for 269.99 after a 30 dollar rebate:

This article is VERY poorly done. Seems biased towards Nvidia if you ask me (At least in this area).

yep, quality of AT articels is going down the tubes, like in their AM2 article they kept talking about DDR2-800 running at 3-3-3 timings despite the fact there is no such product for sale (it is overclocking of an already super expensive meory which is rated for 4-4-4 @DDR2-800). So why compare stock high end DDR1-400 (@2-2-2) to out-of-spec DDR2 ? And not even mention the price difference. For most situations socket 939 with relatively cheap DDR1 will outperform AM2 system with most tyoes of DDR2. Only overclocking the highest end DDR2 can achieve parity with DDR1. So why did the morons that wrote the article even mention DDR2-800 @3-3-3 timings ?

However, its quite rare to find lower latency DDR2 modules, although they will quickly become the next hot thing for the memory market.

There are some DDR2 667 that run at 3-3-3 such as the Corsair XMS2 UL series.

Well it did finally mention the x850xt pci-e deal that has been available for 3-4 months.

To be honest with everyone i never bother with reading the anadtech articles. I find the information posted by the users of this forum much more useful.

Anyone paying $292 for an X1800XL did absolutely no research before making their purchase and deserve what they get. This article is definitely nVidia biased.
