I bought a garmin fitness tracker on 5/19 for $145. They have a 90 day return policy.

There was a one day sale last week where the price dropped to $99... I went to Sams to see if they would just price match (or do some type of return/rebuy where I just brought the receipt in so they could do the return on the system for full price and then just ring it up again at the lower price).

The manager said in order to do this, I would have to actually return the one I bought on 05/19 and then just buy a new one at the cheaper price. I then asked if I just get a new one off the shelf and then just return it using the old receipt and they said they couldn't do that either. I just bought a new one at the cheaper price and walked out...

I just went to a different Sams today and returned the older one saying I wasn't happy with it and kept the new one I bought last week. I had to remove the old one from my Garmin connect app on my phone and then re-pair the new one which took about 5 minutes...

This just doesn't make sense but whatever, I ended up $45 ahead and someone at Sams and/or Garmin has to deal with the returned product that still works...

that's dumb.

they should have given you the difference and moved on.

now they have to do something with the open box.

dumb.

If you use a Citi card, they have PriceRewind. If you register your purchase, they'll track the price for 60 days and issue a refund if a cheaper price is found (or you can request one if you find a cheaper price). No hassle with buying and returning.

Of course, it wouldn't have helped here because of the time window, but something to consider.

Strange because other stores such as Best Buy will refund the difference when an item goes on sale during the return window.

Seems short sighted on their part given the workaround you used.
