Same here, got the chip delivered to my office this morning, but I'm stuck at work until 5. :( Here are my markings:

Very similar to yours, wouldn't you say? It will be interesting to compare how these chips OC once we start tweaking. ;)

Just out of curiosity, how high will yours go at stock voltage?

I'm guessing the last line is the Serial Number, since all 3 of ours are different. On the second line, mine has TPMW vs. SPMW for ArchAngel's. Those are the only differences.

This thread is turning into quite a nerdfest.

Yeah, I think just by reading the Anandtech forums you are at least a lower case nerd.

Ah ok, thought you were running at stock volts or with a little bump.

LOL fair enough. It just occurred to me that comparing the markings on our new CPU heat spreaders while at work was reaching a whole new level of nerdliness. But let's face it, the anticipation is killing me. 2 more hours....

Yeah, I know dude... This is worse than when I was 4 years old on Christmas eve! I want my present... Sadly, I won't be able to install it until LATE tonight, if at all. Good Friday service - I have to honor the One. But when I get back, I can't wait to see how this thing clocks!

Did you try running at a lower voltage? Most people I've seen, including myself, are able to run these pretty well at 1.4v without a problem up to 2.5GHz, I think your heat issue is definitely because of voltage. If you haven't tried to lower it down, I would try to run it at 1.4v, that should easily shave off 10-15 degrees if it's stable, which I would think it would be.

What kind of power supply and what specs on it?

2.3ghz - i bumped up the voltage to push it higher, i just havent had time to push the speed yet. my venice 3200 did 2.6 with stock cooling, i think the 3800 will do the same

Same here.

Google "LCBKE" or Text This guy is getting 3ghz with water cooling with the same stepping code. LCBKE 0643. Im guessing 0643 is the date code.... 2006 week 43 ???

Well, I installed mine. Idles low 30s, haven't had time to see load temps (used the 3200+ cheapo h/s fan from before). Like the performance though when I'm surfing the net and using the tv tuner and other tasks. Definitely worth the pretty penny.

Currently running Orthos for dual core @ 2.66Ghz with a voltage of 1.392. Trying to keep my load temps under 60C. I am using stock cooling, so... yeah. Tonights install was a nightmare... I decided to be pro-active and update my BIOS before putting in my ship, I rebooted and DEAD! OMG! I was so angry... So, I finally was able to get it to boot after removing 1GB of ram and having it in the *perfect* slot... I then tried to revert back to my old BIOS and the BS program tells me that my board does not support the older BIOS. I was about ready to pull out my hair. Finally, I found a copy of the older AWDFlash exe and the origional BIOS file, uploaded and then had to play "guess what is wrong now"... So, I finally got it working after I moved the ram stick around 4 times and found the slot that liked it. Once I got it up, I promptly went back to my origonal BIOS set everything to how it was and slapped in my new CPU. I have absolutely no farging desire to touch this BIOS again. What a finnicky POS. Yes, I am upset... Spent like 3 hours on this tonight. Lets hope this CPU was worth my time :p

Oh yeah, when I cleaned my system out, I noticed that my NB fan was completely dead... It gets damn hot to the touch... But, I am going to just let it go. The fan is unmovable and locked up... It has actually been like that for like 1 year, but I have no desire to fix it... Now that I am running 266 versus 237 bus speed though, I am wondering if it will eventually burn out. Oh well, I need an excuse for another system, by then :p

After several hours toiling over the operating table, his hands covered in Arctic Silver V, the surgeon could only conclude that his patient was DOA. No, this is not the Anna Nicole Smith True Hollywood Story. This is the far more tragic saga of my new x2 3800+ :(

Bottom line, I can't even get it to POST. I flashed my mobo BIOS to the latest version (2.30) several weeks ago without issues, so that is ruled out. I tried resetting CMOS multiple times. I can swap the old CPU back in (3500+) and it works every time -- including the CMOS reset. Swap the new one in, nothing. Well, not exactly nothing -- the LEDs and fans come on, and I can hear some drives spinning, but it never POSTS. Basically, it behaves like a machine with a dead CPU.

What a disappointment. Guess it is RMA time. :( Does anyone have any experience with RMAs @ NewEgg? What kind of turnaround time am I looking at here?

Somniferum, I am sorry to read about your dead CPU. Send it back as soon as you can and get a live one. I have been luckier. Mine booted up on my ASUS A8V board OK OCed to 2.5 Ghz @ 1.4 v vcore. Running two instances of prime95 as I type this with a cpu temp of 50c. I installed a cool little cpu monitor widget that shows the cpu usage for each core in real time. This allows me to clearly see that when I was running a photoshop benchmark, both cores were being used equally. I am really glad I went for this dualy.

Congrats  BTW, what kind of cooling are you using?

Update:

I have been running Orthos for 8 hours, still running the temps stay pegged around 56/57C. Clock speed is 10X266=2.66Ghz @ 1.392 volts. I know this chip can go higher, but I am a bit concerned over my north bridge melting, literally... Besides, getting a 33% overclock for free isn't that bad... :D

Temps are higher than I would like, but they are perfectly safe. Getting the performance of an FX-60 for 93 bucks isn't bad... :D

Nice overclock ArchAngel777, you definitely want to get that northbridge cooler fixed. When the fan on my northbridge cooler started making noise (Epox 9NPA3Ultra), I replaced it with one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118014. Was fairly easy to replace, working with the small nuts was a pain. I was concerned about it fitting, but I bought it locally at microcenter so a return would have been easy.

Yes, I really *should* replace my NB fan, but I dunno... I mean, I need an excuse to upgrade... :D Actually, to be honest, I am to lazy to replace it and too cheap. The fan broke like 1 month after I got it and I have had this rig for 18 months... However, I never clocked the FSB as high as now... So... Yeah, you advice is sound, I really should replace it, but I doubt I am going too. I am watching motherboard temps and CPU. If MB goes over 40c, i'll get it replaced asap. So far it is sitting around 35c. CPU pegs at 57 still. So I am guessing that is pretty decent.

DVD Shrink is at least twice as fast as it was on the my SC 3500+. This saves me a LOT of time.

I got mine installed today and got a LCBKE 0643SPMW. I was using an opteron 146 oced to 2740 on an Asrock 939 Dual SATA 2 motherboard. I booted it first @ 2.5 with 1.4v and ran 3dmark 05 and got 6115 with x800 pro with 16 pipes @ 510/549. I'm ideling around 32-33C. Windows felt about the same as my opteron. I overclocked to 2.6 @ 1.4v (highest mobo will do without volt mod) but it didn't feel as smooth as at 2.5 and was ideling around 38C +. It ran through 3dmark05 and only scored like 15 points higher (of course vid card is bottleneck) I figure if I would have done the volt mod that it would have been pushing closer to around 40C + at idle which is too hot. I'm using an artic freezer 64 HS and artic silver 5.

I tried lowering the voltage to 1.375 but it wouldn't boot. I have it at 1.4v @ 2.51 and tightened the timings on everything else.

I'm happy with the purchase but haven't tried using it for anything dual core yet to see the true power of it in comparison to my opteron.

Question: Since I have had my opteron @ 2740 now for a year and don't plan on buying another AF64 HS and will probably use stock cooler on another board. Do I need to worry about stability at lower clockspeed (I'm figuring it should still run around 2.4-2.5) since it was @ 2740 for that long. Thanks.

I went over to my dads to overclock his tonight... We were able to post at 3.0Ghz... LOL... Anywany, we had to back it down for stability. He also is running at 2.66Ghz @ 1.425 voltage. His chip seems slightly inferior to mine, as I was able to hit those speeds with less voltage. Makes me wonder... :D

Sorry to hear about Somniferum's CPU... That is always a bummer to get a DOA chip... :-( When you finally get a good one, I am sure it will clock respectably.
