Well, I just got asked where I live to be charged such huge prices for stuff. I live in New Zealand, and lets do a quick comparison of prices. Maybe this should be in Off Topic? if a Mod wants to move it, thats fine.

So, lets design a nice system. maybe something like this:

Opteron 165
DFI LanParty SLI-DR Expert
2X 1 gig OCZ Platinum ram (PC3200)
1X 74 gig raptor
1X 500 gig Seagate 7200.9
XFX 7900GTX
NZXT Nemesis Elite case no PSU
Siverstone Strider 600W modular PSU
Logitech G15 keyboard
Razer Copperhead mouse

All in all, a rather good system, just add monitor and cooling.

So, prices? well:

Opteron 165 $712
DFI LanParty SLI-DR Expert $370
2X 1 gig OCZ Platinum ram (PC3200) $605
1X 74 gig raptor $330
1X 500 gig Seagate 7200.9 $615
XFX 7900GTX $1219
NZXT Nemesis Elite case $213 no PSU
Siverstone Strider 600W modular PSU $227
Logitech G15 keyboard $125
Razer Copperhead mouse $148

Total: $4564. Damn, NZ prices SUCK!

How much would that be over there?

Well, whatever it is over here, at least you won't be turning the keys to the house over to some Chinese feller next week!

Thats $2812.30 US according to xe.com. and like I said, plu monitor (allow at least $800 for a reasonable 19" LCD, and cooling (for reference, a Thermaltake Blue Ord is around $100, the Zalman Fatality is around $140), not to mention any software.

Slightly higher prices than with our aussie dollar. Gotta love our poor economies.

Politics and News jab about the US adding $3 trillion in debt under Bush, much of it going to countries like China.
