Price Check, used hd3870

A friend of mine is looking to upgrade to an HD4890 and at the same time I'm looking to upgrade one of my older computers with some moderately powerful used hardware. He has the HIS Iceq3 hd3870 and offered to sell it to me (since he's upgrading). The problem is neither he or I have any idea how much this edition of the card is worth. I know the average range for a used 3870 is about $50 but is this card worth more? To my knowledge the card has never been overclocked ( I don't think he knows how to) And he hasn't had it for that long ( October).
 
do an advanced search on ebay for the card and find completed listings only. Looks for recent activity and thats your street price.
 
I love my HIS 3870 and it's still sitting in my spare computer. It was the first video card I owned with GDDR4 memory and I especially like the ICQ3 cooler. I have noticed that since the launch of the 4770 the price of the 3870 on Ebay is falling so I guess the 3870 will be spending more time in my spare computer.

I'm going to assume you just read the title of my thread and automatically posted rules and regulations which you are determined to enforce? My friend is the one who told me to find out how much the card is worth, he's computer illiterate and I put together his PC and selected the card originally. I'm not trying to sell an item, I'm trying to find out how much an item costs today. There is no personal gain on my part here. This item is nonexistant on hardware sales websites and none are available used on ebay to give me any remote idea on how much the item is worth. I don't want to be cheated or cheat my friend on the price, the knowledgeable people here have helped give me a rough estimate of what I should spend. If you actually read my post you might have seen that. If I can't ask how much the price of an item is on a computer forum then what should I do, go to a WoW forum....? I'm not out to break rules. I know the regulations of the board well. If you can suggest a better website to me to turn to for pricing estimates, then by all means go ahead.
 
I think Zap's response was a knee-jerk (hope you didn't hurt yourself there 😉).

You're just lucky he didn't also lock the thread up which is the normal response to a price-check request.

And yeah - as indicated - these cards are worth around $50 based on performance compared to other cards' prices on the market today.
 
So price checking for "a friend" is OK?

First reply seemed to cover it: recent completed auctions are pretty good guide to a street price.
