apples and oranges
Damn right apples and oranges. One is a porsche and the other is a nissan. It's simply not right that a nissan can smack a porsche up like this. The reason is because porsche shouldn't have a freaknig SUV in the first place.Originally posted by: Diesel UV

Cool. That would be pretty useful. The new six-speed manual gearbox will broaden the Cayenne's appeal for those that feel that even the most modern of auto boxes do not give sufficient control. The unique feature of the Porsche box is what the company calls the "Porsche Drive-Off Assistant."
This is essentially a system that holds the vehicle on a hill without the need to apply the parking brake. The system senses when the vehicle stops on a hill and when the foot is removed to operate the clutch maintains the braking force applied by the pedal. When the clutch is engaged, the brake pressure is released and the vehicle moves off. The system works in both forward and reverse, and it enables Porsche to use a foot-operated parking brake without the problems posed to even the most expert drivers when trying to parallel-park on an incline with this type of system.
Barely...I'm running so much compression through the engine that I can't pass smog, but I know a guy at the registrar who hooked me up. Only getting like 8 mpg and the thing is stiff as hell on regular roads but I manageOriginally posted by: Millennium

Porsche version has more than 220 lb-ft available from 2000 rpm to 5500 rpm, a useful attribute in an off-roader
They are right about the power range, but someone going offroad with one of those? I'll look for them next spring on Redcone, but I have some serious doubts about seeing one![]()

It was interesting that at the extreme, the control systems did more than just keep the Cayenne going in the right direction - they also made a great deal of extraneous noise, reminding the driver that this was not the most sensible driving style.
And what kind of trail might that be? There aren't many SUVs that are as capable off-road as the Touareg and Cayenne - especially none as luxury oriented.Originally posted by: Diesel UV
I didn't think there was any diff between the 6 and 8, besides the engine. Neither is trail worthy.
Cayenne is about as likely to be taken off road as my sentraOriginally posted by: KnightBreed

Maybe Hummer (H1), Jeep (Grand Cherokee), Land Rover (Discovery and Range Rover), and Mercedes (G500). Though arguably, none of them are as nicely appointed as the Touareg and Cayenne.

Diesel said the Cayenne isn't trailworthy. I wanted to know what he was basing his opinion on. Other SUV's, or some trumped up Ranger on 36" tires.Originally posted by: Skoorb

Cayenne sales have been great for Porsche and I'm sure the V-6 will sell fine as well. I don't think that the people who are going to be buying these care much for street racing and off-roading. Face it, Porsche is now more accessible to people monetarily in a huge segment of the automotive market. The yuppie behind the wheel does not envy your family sedan and if he wants an Infiniti he'll buy one. Love it, hate it, it's good for Porsche and that's the bottom line.
