I, too, don't like the design. The front looks like a minivan (thank you cab-forward design), the middle looks like an Explorer, and they took the taillights straight off a Jeep Liberty. I'm also not a huge fan of the giant grill and ever-sinking fenders/headlights.
However, I got to drive a preproduction 2005 model with the 5.7L Hemi.... that was supercharged! As big as the Durango grew, it moves very quickly when there are about 460 ponies pushing it!

I have no idea whether or not that supercharged engine will ever make it to production. I was told by my boss "the boys at Dodge were just having some fun with it." I was only there to test, analyze, and design the braking system. Sometimes it's nice working for a Tier 1 supplier.
