Preventing vista from closing an application

I still haven't moved all systems over to vista.
Mainly due to software issues.
still I keep one install for testing.

One problem I am having is the way vista detects that a program has stopped responding.
I have several applications that can tie up the cpu for several minutes which makes vista think the program has stopped responding and will pop up the box to close the application.

So what I need to do is turn off this function.
Re-writing the applications at this point is not an option.
