Prevent scaling with 9700NP and LCD screen

ok, i have a 9700 non-pro and dell FP1800 lcd. the lcd is 18" and 1280x1024. my question is when playing games, how do i prevent the video card from scaling the image? i play counterstrike, and the only close resolution is 1280 x 960. with my older geforce2 ultra, when playing games the screen was letterboxed, black bars on bottom and top. i liked this because then there was no scaling of the picture, and results of a 1:1 pixel mapping. it was very very sharp.

with the radeon, i can't figure out how to do it. i remember someone mentioning that it would be in the control panel, but i don't see this option at all. i'm running 3.0 cat's (downloading 3.1 right now). is this possible? or am i stuck with the scaling?
