Over 40C doesn't constitute a high temperature on any AMD motherboard that I'm aware of. I'd say you're cleared for some weekend fragging action :)

Don't let hardcore cooling enthusiasts confuse you. There's nothing wrong with 40+ at all.

But a different motherboard?

What temp constitutes high temperatures? I've just put together a rig with 2500+ Barton, A7N8X Deluxe, 1GB PC2700 DDR, and have been getting temperatures at about 50/51C. Is that normal, or something I should be concerned about? I'm pretty nervous about the whole heatsink setup, since this is the first time I'm putting together a rig from scratch.

Welcome to the funhouse, NanDesu :D AMD motherboards estimate CPU temperature using an external thermistor, at least for the reading that the user sees. The CPU's internal diode is monitored for overheat on all recent-model boards, but you don't get to see that reading.

As a result, boards are calibrated all over the place. I know of two similar boards from different companies that typically give readings 25C to 30C different from eachother. It depends on the board, and even the BIOS revision that you're using. If your temperature estimate is over 70C you're heading for the danger zone on nearly all AMD motherboards, however.

Thanks for the info mechBgon! I was thinking that I might be ok, since the temperature hasn't been rising, but still needed some assurance.

Here's assurance. My Abit IC7 is running at 48C idle right now. It's been doing this since I've gotten it and I don't seem to have a problem so far. I'm not the only one to complain about this temperature boost however. Among all Abit boards, the temperatures are calculated hire than normal and it doesn't seem to be a problem. Your motherboard might be the same way. It also depends on ambient temperatures. Some people say their CPUs run at 25C idle which to me is a complete indication on where you live. My MB temperature has never seen 25C let alone my CPU. It's not something to worry about though. Like I said 48C now (it's hot in here) but when I wake up in ther morning and check my temps it'll be around 35-38C because it gets pretty cool in here when I leave the window open over night. Temps can vary... and honestly, after my SLK-800u clip popped off and my computer shut down on me, my 2.4B is still chugging along at 3.2ghz after some greasage and remountage.

Same here.

I think its my crappy case and my original PS's that came with the case which lacks a second fan. Getting a more reliable ps with 2 fans should help. I also was thinking about getting a better hs/fan solution.

When I take the side panel off the case, the temp def falls to the 40c to 45c range.

if you look in the bios, the temperature is higher than usual.... if u use asus probe, it shows the lower one.

I run a 1600+ with a Volcano9 @3100RPM, one intake and one exhaust, and my Truepower at 49C. It was typically two degrees higher, but i propped my case up two inches off the ground. So dont worry, esp since your components should produce more heat than mine.

case fans cool case. it doesn't make up for a lousy cpu cooler. helps a bit, but only so much.

you call 40+ high? You got to see my work computer wich runs 50+ and it does just fine and it has for a long time. Like some said, don't let people confuse you. Also, this system is silent which is important to me, If I plug in the 2 funs it has temps will be lower, but I don't have to.

A new PS with dual fans makes quite a difference. I was running a crappy one that came with my case, and when I replaced it with a dual fan Enermax, my CPU temp dropped about 4 deg.

It seems like the temps did go down a little.

also, I loaded SiSoft Sandra into my comp. Is it always accurate??? It tells me stuff that I know is inaccurate like my cpu fan not running.

Thoughts.
