pretty... but i dont think its supposed to be doing that...

Held a neodymium magnet too close? haha.

Normally I'd ask if you tried the monitor on a different computer to see if it was your computer not the monitor.. But judging by your post count I'm going to assume you'd know to do that...

Found this for you:

Answer
leave it unplugged for at least one full day to discharge it.
Use some canned air to blow all the dust out by blowing out the vent holes.
If you can get it to come up then, make sure you reset it to the factory defaults.
These are just quick fixes, if they don't work you'll need to have it repaired. Usually it is more cost effective to just purchase a new one. Check newegg.com

Are there any missing pins in your HDMI/DVI plug?

interestingly enough, I even got that with no computer hooked up at all.

i believe there is something wrong with the panel...

accidently bumped the panel, and it went to a good picture.
few minutes later it was back. smacked it intentionally again, and it was almost a good picture again, except for a 1 inch white column.
smacked it 3 more times, which went through a rash of changes, then to a good picture.

an hour later is was back to rainbow.

Holy crap you copied my system!

Same 2709W, keyboard, Klipsch speakers (4.1 here)...

But wow, sure hope that doesn't happen to my screen. Please keep us posted on how it turns out.

Yeah if it's changing from smacking then you probably have the same problem that many laptop users encounter from slightly bent screens. Try laying the screen flat on it's face for a day or two, then lift it back up and plug it in.

totally normal all my displays are like that, makes gaming alot of fun 🙂

Try a differnt cable i had one DVI cable do that to me took me forever to figure it out.
Failing that just RMA it there is something wrong, did you really need us to tell you that?.
