We have what looks to be a decent fax machine, as far as fax machines go. 8 MB memory and stuff. http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webap...storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&modelNo=UF-6000

We have to get paperwork on a daily basis from another company and this is the only means by which they can send it. Should it really take 15+ minutes to receive / print 30 pages? Or, is it possible that we need a new fax or there's something wrong with this one?

It's supposed to receive @ 3 secs / page, which = 90 seconds
And print @ 6.5 ppm, which = 5 minutes

Total should be 7 minutes or so, not 30.

I know, not a lot of data to work with, if you need to know more, just say so.

I have a hard time believing that a fax machine is the "only means by which they can send it." It's more likely they're too ignorant to send it by a more modern and efficient means.

Well, sorry, but it's true.

Without a direct link to their network - which they won't allow - they can't print directly to us.

um why do they need to print directly to you? send .PDFs or other secured forms via email or FTP.. and then you print on your side..

sounds like it is not connected at the speed it should be connecting, that could be due to either an older fax on one end or line quality being bad. Do some testing.

A 15 page fax shouldnt take more than 5-7 minutes to transmit and another 5 minutes to print at max.

If its not connecting at 33.6kbps its probably connecting at 28.8 or 14.4 or 9600 or 4800 or worse 2400.

So check the line quality.

If the sender is really as bad as the OP says, I agree that perhaps their fax machine is the problem.
