Presumed Motherboard Problems

Hello Anandtech users,

I'm back with yet another problem 😉

I've built several computers and have never run across this. I assume it's a faulty hardware issue, most likely in the mainboard.

When I plug the power supply into the main board and attempt to power it up, nothing happens. No fans spinning or anything. I've tried connection the CPU, RAM, and video card, but have had no luck.

The board is an ECS K7S5A and I'll be running a 1.3GHz Duron (yeah, it's a budget machine)

Thanks for any help!

I would say it's either the power supply or the switch. You can try bypassing the switch by using a screwdriver to short out the two pins on the mainboard for the power switch connector. If that doesn't work, see if you can find another P.S. to try. I suppose it could be the mainboard, but my money is on the P.S.

Thanks for your reply!

I know the power supply is working. It is recently purchased and I can hook it to another machine and I get power. I also tested a known good power supply and it worked as well.

I'll give the thing a go, but if I remember correctly, it worked fine about a week and a half ago when I was using the old motherboard (replaced because it was out of date and I am pretty sure the PS/2 ports were fried when the last power supply went). I'll give the screwdriver a try though; I never thought to do that.

Thanks for the heads up. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
